Cottage Violapo is set in open countryside, surrounded by the striking trachytic rock on which the borgo of Roccastrada stands. It offers a peaceful retreat, ideal for escaping the pace of everyday life and breaking from routine, with a warm, cosy, and welcoming atmosphere throughout.
You enter directly into the living area, created within a winter garden that fills the space with natural light and provides full views of the park and surrounding outdoor areas. Part of this space can be separated and used as an additional sleeping area if required. The kitchen is well organised and fully equipped, while the bedrooms overlook the garden and have direct access to it. The interiors are finished with simple Tuscan materials, including terracotta floors, stone detailing around the fireplace, and soft upholstery tones that blend naturally with the setting. The cottage was fully renovated in 2022, with further roof improvements completed four years later to add ventilation and insulation, improving overall comfort.
The property sits within 3,300 square metres of landscaped garden set between two hills, with lawns, flowering shrubs, fruit trees, oaks, and roses, extending into a further 10,000 square metres of flat terrain. The outdoor spaces are designed for full enjoyment of the natural surroundings, whether dining under the gazebo with its table, chairs, barbecue, and wood oven, relaxing on the lawn, or walking barefoot through the grounds to feel closer to nature. Evenings can be spent under the stars with the scent of the wood oven, the sound of crickets, and a glass of Sangiovese, creating a calm and restorative atmosphere. A highlight of the outdoor area is the wellness zone, which includes a Jacuzzi, a traditional wooden sauna with a panoramic front window, and a wood-fired stove enhanced with essential oils and honey for a Finnish-style sauna experience, with Birch Beer available on request afterwards.
A short distance from the wellness area is the rectangular swimming pool, built in 2020, measuring 8 x 6 metres with depths ranging from 10 cm to 1.5 metres. It features night lighting and a 50 square metre solarium with both lawn and paved areas, furnished with sunbeds, umbrellas, and a gazebo with seating for breakfast. The pool is available from the last Saturday in April to the first Saturday in October.
Cottage Violapo is also inspected before the start of each season to ensure the accuracy of the description, listed amenities, and their working condition, guaranteeing quality, cleanliness, and comfort for all guests.
Check-in is available from 16:00 to 19:00, and check-out must be completed by 10:00.
A late check-in fee applies for arrivals outside these hours: €80 for check-ins between 20:00 and 00:00.
Grosseto is a historic city in the southern part of Tuscany, Italy, surrounded by the wide open landscapes of the Maremma countryside. Unlike many of Tuscany’s hill towns, Grosseto is set on a flat plain, which gives it a more relaxed and spacious feel while still offering plenty of charm and history.
The city is best known for its well-preserved Medicean walls, which fully encircle the old town and can be walked for great views over the rooftops and surrounding area. Inside the walls, the historic centre is compact and easy to explore on foot, with quiet streets, traditional cafés, and small shops. At the heart of the city is Piazza Dante, where you can find the impressive Grosseto Cathedral, a striking Gothic-style church that dominates the square.
Grosseto also benefits from its close proximity to the Maremma Natural Park and the Tyrrhenian coast, making it a great base for both countryside and beach trips. Just a short drive away, you can find unspoilt beaches, pine forests, and nature reserves, offering a strong contrast to the city's calm urban centre.
Overall, Grosseto is a peaceful and authentic Tuscan destination that combines history, nature, and local life, making it ideal for visitors looking to experience a more relaxed side of Italy away from the busier tourist hotspots.
