The best time to visit the Caribbean
The best time to visit the Caribbean is during the Northern Hemisphere winter, particularly between December and April. During this time, the weather is beautifully warm, sunny, and dry, with little rainfall, making it perfect for lazy beach days and exploring the attractions of these amazing islands. Nighttime temperatures are also cool enough for enjoying a comfortable night's sleep (or all-night parties).
If you're looking to avoid the crowds then it's best to steer clear of the winter weeks, particularly the Holiday Season. Around Christmas and New Year's, festive sun seekers flock to the Caribbean, making for a busy time on the islands.

Food in the Caribbean
The Caribbean is a real foodie’s destination. From fresh seafood to traditional Creole cuisine, international fare to established daily favorites, there is something to delight and surprise every palette. Each island has its own distinctive culinary personality, with must-try delicacies tempting visitors to authentic beachfront bars and restaurants. Some classic Caribbean dishes include the famous jerk chicken of Jamaica, roast pork dishes, lobster and crab, pepperpot stew, and of course, rum punch. For those with a sweet tooth, the Caribbean is home to a plethora of delicious desserts and treats. Take a look at some of our favorites in our guide to Caribbean desserts.
The Caribbean is famously the birthplace of rum, and whichever island you visit, you'll have the opportunity to sample some delicious rum-based cocktails. You may also have the opportunity to visit a local distillery and learn more about this iconic Caribbean export.
For fine dining aficionados, the Caribbean is home to several Michelin Star restaurants, showcasing the best in local and international cuisine. From Chef Eric Ripert’s Blue on Grand Cayman, which holds the AAA Five Diamond level of recognition, to Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten's Dune in the Bahamas and Chef Jean Claude Dufour's L'Espirit on the exclusive island of St Barthelemy, you'll find world-class eateries on almost every island.
Depending on which island you're visiting, flights to the Caribbean are not usually too hard to come by. Many flights transit via Florida or Panama, although larger islands such as Barbados, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic have direct flights from hubs within the USA and Europe, including London. Smaller islands such as St Barts may require a shuttle flight from other nearby islands as the airports are too small for large planes to land.
Getting around by road in the Caribbean is generally easy. Most islands have decent bus networks, and while taxis are a more expensive option, they are comfortable and safe ways to get about.
Driving on Caribbean islands can be a challenging experience, especially if you're not familiar with the roads which can twist and turn. Parking is also at a premium in many tourist spots, so it might be best to forgo the car for this trip.
Why settle for one paradise island when you can visit a few? There are many neighboring islands in the Caribbean that are close enough to take a short flight or a ferry crossing between. For example, you can cross from Anguilla to St Martin by ferry in just 25 minutes. Whether you're day tripping or doing a multi-center vacation, island hopping in the Caribbean is a great way to experience the different cultures and beauty of the islands. Don't forget your passport!
You can also charter a small boat and skipper if you want to enjoy the freedom to explore nearby islands at your own pace. This is a great option for those wanting to put together a personalized Caribbean itinerary.
