Marigot is a relaxed beach destination located on the northeastern shore of St. Barthelemy, just 16 minutes' drive away from the island capital, Gustavia (home to upmarket shops, scenic harbor and attractions). The chic Caribbean Island of St. Barts can be found in the French West Indies, located between the Franco-Dutch island of St Martin/St Maarten and the archipelago of Guadeloupe.
There are multiple ways to reach Marigot in St Barth/St Barthelemy.
By Ferry
A frequent foot passenger ferry service runs between Gustavia harbor in St Barts and Marigot harbor in the French side of St Martin. The journey time is approximately 45-60 minutes.
You will also find 2 other direct ferry crossings from the Dutch side of Sint-Maarten, from Philipsburg Terminal and Simpson Bay Terminal in Pelican Marina.
By Plane
Reaching St. Barts by plane typically involves flying into the island's Gustaf III Airport (SBH), which is known for its short runway and dramatic approach over the hills. Since St. Barts is a small island, there are no direct international flights to Gustaf III Airport, so a connecting flight is necessary from a neighboring island.
The typical routes for reaching St. Barts by plane include:
- Flying into Princess Juliana International Airport on St Martin (SXM), before taking a short connecting flight via regional airlines to St Barts (journey time is approximately 10-15 minutes).
- Flying in from San Juan, Puerto Rico (SJU) or Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) in San Juan, Puerto Rico and from there taking a connecting flight to St. Barts, via regional airlines.
Taxis
There are 2 main taxi ranks on St Barts. You will find these at St Jean Airport and in Gustavia, along Rue de la République. Fares tend to be higher in the evenings and during peak holiday times, as well as on Sundays and over festive periods. It's advisable to confirm the taxi rate from Gustavia to Marigot before choosing to hop in a taxi. Many taxis offer fixed rate taxi tours too, enabling you to take in the sights, without the worry of car hire. Private car transfers can also be booked for all your ferry port, villa and airport needs.
Car Rentals
For extra freedom whilst away, our private car hire service offers a hassle-free way to reach your Marigot villa. Providing you with the ultimate way to explore St Barts at leisure, a private car invites you to discover this beautiful Caribbean Island at your own pace. It's possible to drive around this idyllic tiny island in just an hour. We thoroughly recommend it!
Scooters and Quads
On St Barts you will find a host of year-round scooter and quad rental companies, offering a range of packages designed for short-term tourist use, ensuring a fun way to explore the Island with your partner or friends.
That depends! When looking to know the best time to visit St Barts, knowing the typical seasonal weather conditions and your intented vacation budget will play a key factor in your decision making.
High Season
Discover the magic of St. Barts at its peak from December to April, where warm weather and a flurry of annual island events await. Despite the higher costs, this period promises a delightful blend of sunny days and rich cultural experiences! Of all the winter months, December through February reign as the optimum time for enjoying a St. Barts escapade. With December offering moderately hot weather and daily highs of 81°F, and January boasting temperatures of 75-82°F, even the coldest month feels like a warm embrace, especially for outdoor enthusiasts. February mirrors January's climate, but with a touch more warmth.
Winter wanderers are in for a treat as the island buzzes with activity, from bustling tourist spots to serene hideaways waiting to be explored. Dive into the vibrant tapestry of events like the Christmas Village, New Year’s Eve celebrations, and the St. Barts Music Festival, among others.
While flights, villa rentals, and activities may command a premium during the bustling winter months, savvy travelers can snag deals by planning their escape from September to November.
Mid-peak to low Season
For those seeking a quieter time to visit, March to April offers a sweet spot, as the high season winds down and moderate temperatures beckon. It's the perfect opportunity to savor the island's attractions, whilst embracing the value of an off-peak getaway. Dubbed the "lent" season by locals, St. Barts' dry season boasts temperatures ranging from 70-80°F, complemented by a refreshing ocean breeze.
As mid-April ushers in the onset of the low season, prices become even more enticing, making it an opportune time to bask in St. Barts' beauty, without breaking the bank. Embrace the island's tranquility, savor its unique charms, and create memories that linger long after the sun sets over its azure shores.
