Chamonix is a true year-round alpine playground, with each season offering its own magic:
Spring in Chamonix brings blooming alpine meadows and quieter trails - perfect for hiking, mountain biking, or taking in panoramic views from the Aiguille du Midi cable car without the winter crowds. It’s also a great time for late-season skiing at higher altitudes.
In summer, Chamonix transforms into an adventure hub. Enjoy world-class trail running, climbing, paragliding, and white-water rafting, or explore over 350km of hiking trails through the Mont Blanc massif. The resort town buzzes with life, open-air cafés, and festivals.
Autumn is a hidden gem - fewer tourists, golden forests, and crisp mountain air make it ideal for quiet hikes, photography, and wellness retreats. It’s a great time for a cozy chalet stay and savouring local cuisine.
In winter, Chamonix is legendary. Skiers and snowboarders flock to its mixed-ability terrain, from gentle runs in Le Tour to challenging off-piste at Grands Montets. Off the slopes, try ice climbing, snowshoeing, or relax at the spa, then enjoy lively après-ski in the heart of town.
The Chamonix ski season typically runs from mid-December to early May, with the best snow conditions between January and mid-March. Most ski areas - like Brévent, Flégère, Les Houches, and Le Tour - are open during the core season through early April, while high-altitude spots like Grands Montets and the iconic Vallée Blanche glacier run often stay skiable into May. Whether you're chasing powder in January or spring sunshine in April, Chamonix offers a long and varied season for all levels of skier.
