You're seduced before you even step inside, thanks to the luscious tropical garden that surrounds the villa. Once you've stepped through the green-shuttered front door, you'll discover a tranquil, spacious, sun-splashed home with simple-chic furnishings, cool tile floors, and a gracious outdoor dining area.

Beguiling as Avel ar Mor is, it also has a strong practical streak. Two of the bedrooms are connected, making it ideal for families, and the third bedroom is in a separate bungalow, in case you want to bring the grandparents too. The entire villa stretches out across three structures on one level, making it safe for young children and accessible for the elderly, and the safety of the neighborhood adds to your piece of mind. And of course Sibarth can organize activities to suit the whole family.

The feeling is traditional Caribbean, with soaring vaulted ceilings, dark wood and just a little judiciously deployed gingerbread, and dreamy four-poster beds draped with romantic netting. There’s an abundance of light and space, with windows on every side and an open floorplan in which the living room flows into the dining room flows into the spacious, well-equipped kitchen and dining patio, complete with a bar and pass-through window into the kitchen. And the sunrise and sunset views are tremendous, from the pool deck, where chaises flank a half-oval heated (in high season) swimming pool and look out over the Atlantic, and from the separate sun deck, which has vistas over Marigot Bay and St. Maarten in the distance.
