Getting to Sun Valley isn’t as complicated as its remote location suggests. There are 3 airports in the vicinity of the resort, with the closest being the Friedman Memorial Airport (SUN), which is just 20 minutes drive from Sun Valley. During peak season, there are direct flights to SUN from Seattle, Salt Lake City and Los Angeles. Slightly further out, there are the Twin Falls Airport, which is 90 miles to the south of Sun Valley, and Boise Airport, which is 150 miles to the southwest. Boise generally offers the best value option, and is a 2.5 hour drive from Sun Valley.
Sun Valley is one of the snowiest places in Idaho with an average of 102 inches every year. December is generally the month with the heaviest snowfall, although snow falls between October and April most years.
During ski season, the lifts at Sun Valley run daily from 9 am until 4 pm.
Sun Valley Ski Resort usually closes around mid-April, depending on weather conditions.
