Reeds Bay, on Barbados’ west coast, is known locally for its unspoiled white sand beach and is a firm favorite with Bajan locals looking to escape the crowds at the nearby Paynes Bay and Mullins Beach. In contrast to those busy nearby spots, Reeds Bay is more akin to a desert island beach, quiet, secluded, and utterly idyllic. The balmy waters of the Caribbean Sea are startlingly clear and seem to shift in hue with the changing light of the day, from sparkling sapphire blue to rich emerald green. To walk along the soft, silty sand of Reeds Bay feels like walking across clouds, and it is the perfect place to while away the hours on a luxuriously serene beach vacation.
Our Reeds Bay Barbados villas are beautiful places to spend your vacation. Having a private pool for your exclusive use is a little luxury that you simply wouldn’t have when you stay in a Barbados hotel. With our Reeds Bay villas, you can enjoy your own beautiful outdoor space, complete with a pool, seating area, and, in some cases, private hot tubs. As far as we’re concerned, there is no better place to spend a lazy vacation day than in a private pool, cocktail in hand, watching the Caribbean Sea as the sun slowly dips below the far horizon, painting the sky in shades of pink and orange as it goes.
Is there a better excuse to let yourself relax, unwind, and be pampered than when you’re on vacation? We don’t think so, so that’s why many of our stunning Reeds Bay Barbados villas come with expert staff included in the price of the booking. Reeds Bay is on Barbados’ beautiful west coast, in the parish of St James. The area is also sometimes called the Platinum Coast, because of the number of white sand beaches along the coast, of which Reeds Bay is home to one.
Barbados’ airport is called Grantley Adams International Airport, which is 19.5 miles away from Reeds Bay. It takes around 40 minutes to drive from the airport to Reeds Bay.
Reeds Bay is pretty sheltered from the elements, so is generally a great place for swimming, snorkeling, and other water activities. There are often boat tours that turn up in the bay in the early afternoon to take advantage of the calm sea conditions, so the water might get a little more crowded at this time.
As with any water activity, it is important to follow your instincts and keep a look out for strong currents and rip tides, and never leave children unaccompanied. Reeds Bay is a public beach without a lifeguard, so beach users are encouraged to remain vigilant for themselves and others in the water. There is an area that is marked for swimming.
Reeds Bay is a public beach and is particularly popular with locals.
There are no sun loungers available for hire at Reeds Bay, nor are there any concession stands where you can buy food and drinks, so make sure that you bring everything you want down to the bay with you.

Reeds Bay itself doesn't have any restaurants, but there are plenty of delicious places to grab both local and international meals very close by. Just up the road in Carlton, you can find Carlton Variety Bar and Grill, a popular place where traditional local food is served with a side order of some of the warmest hospitality you’ll ever experience. The bar and grill are open Friday and Saturday nights, and you can expect local favorites including chicken salads, seafood, and bbq. There is also a small store which is open every day except Sunday.
Also nearby is Marcy’s Bar and Restaurant, another friendly local place that is known for serving a mean rum punch. If you’re craving something more international, La Mirage Bar and Grill in Lower Carlton offers a mixture of Caribbean and international cuisine, great drinks, and screens for watching sporting events. It is a lively place, often hosting karaoke and event evenings with deals on drinks and food.
The beauty of Reeds Bay is that it is a quiet, unspoiled, unhurried destination, and, aside from the beach, there is very little in Reeds Bay itself. For that reason, if you’re wanting to tear yourself away from the sand and explore a bit more of Barbados, we recommend renting a car to get yourself around easily.
