Yes; in fact, Bari is the capital of the Puglia region. Bari is a stunning ancient city that is dripping with charm and culture. From the winding streets of the old town where you could easily lose yourself for an entire day, to the atmospheric harbors, and the Basilica di San Nicola, which dates all the way back to the 11th century, Bari is a fantastic destination if you want to enjoy a true authentic Italian experience.

If you are hoping to go to Puglia for your next vacation but are concerned about how to get there, then you are in luck. Puglia in fact has its own airports, with three available to international airports located across the region, with two main international airports. The main airport is Bari International (BRI), located close to the region’s capital city of Bari. Following BRI is Salento Airport (BDS) , which is located further South than Bari.
As Rome in the region of Lazio, and the region of Puglia share the same landmass, it is possible to drive between the two. If you are hitting the road in your own vehicle, the journey between Puglia’s capital and Rome takes just over four and a half hours. It is also possible to catch a bus between the two cities, with a high-speed train available between them, which takes around four hours. It is also possible to catch a flight between Rome and Bari if you want to get there as quickly as possible, with a journey time of an hour.
Crime in Italy is generally very low. There may be some incidences of petty crime, such as pick-pocketing, happening in the busier cities of Puglia. The best thing you can do is stay aware of your surroundings and keep alert to your belongings, to deter any potential pick-pocketers. Otherwise, most vacations to Puglia run completely smoothly, and you can expect an enjoyable experience exploring one of the most beautiful regions in Italy.
