When: The 1st Palio (Palio di Provenzano) is on July 2, 2026. The 2nd Palio (Palio dell’Assunta) is on August 16, 2026.

The Palio di Siena is one of Italy’s most iconic historic events, held twice each summer in the heart of Siena. Taking place in Piazza del Campo, the race sees 10 horses and jockeys represent Siena’s contrade in a dramatic bareback contest surrounded by medieval pageantry, local pride and centuries-old tradition.

Each Palio forms part of a four-day celebration, with horse selections, trials, neighbourhood dinners, blessings, the Corteo Storico procession and the race itself. Visitors can watch from the centre of Piazza del Campo for free, while ticketed seating and balcony views are highly sought after.
