Things to do in Orlando at night
Enjoy extended hours at Disney
You can enjoy Disney’s attractions and experiences until late at night on special After Hours evenings. Taking place at Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios, these family friendly nights feature special themed shows and low wait times at dozens of rides. Entrance starts from 7pm and show times are generally from 9pm until midnight. Ice cream, popcorn and select beverages are included in the price – you can get great-value park tickets here.
Splash around at a pool party
If you’re looking for evening activities for families, how about heading to a nighttime pool party? At Typhoon Lagoon, guests can enjoy amazing water park action until late at its H20 Glow Nights. Held on select dates through the summer, the event is packed with splash-tastic surprises such as glowing lights, a DJ-hosted beach party, specially-lit slides and character meet-and-greets. A tempting array of food and drink is on offer, plus there’s an adults-only area featuring entertainment and a bar.
There are some stunning villas to stay at nearby, including options with their own pools.
Be wowed at Universal
Attention all Harry Potter fans! You can see Hogwarts Castle light up with dazzling effects at Universal’s Wizarding World of Harry Potter. On select nights, the Nighttime Lights show features an amazing spectacle of lights and projections cast against the majestic castle. Held at Hogsmeade in Universal’s Islands of Adventure, it’s a top choice if you’re looking for family friendly things to do at night.
Spot colorful cars
The entertainment district of Old Town in Kissimmee offers fun for the whole family both day and night. Each week it hosts amazing nighttime car cruises featuring all manner of colorful vintage cars. Kids and adults alike will love seeing the funky cars cruising up and down the main street. If your kids aren’t car fans, you can catch a magic show, visit a haunted house or hang out at the funfair instead.
Kissimmee is located just a stone’s throw from Disney World and is home to some of the most popular family resorts in Orlando.
See the skyline at night
You’ll see Orlando in a whole new light when you take a nighttime ride on The Wheel at Icon Park. At night, the huge wheel lights up with more than 60,000 multi-colored lights. From heights of up to 400 feet you can see the entire Orlando skyline including downtown, the theme parks and beyond. Riders of all ages are welcome on The Wheel which operates from 10am-10pm on weekdays and from 10am-midnight on weekends.
Ride the world’s tallest swing
Clocking in at 425 feet tall, the Orlando Starflyer is the world’s tallest swing ride. There is no age limit, just a minimum height of 44 inches. Moving up and down and rotating around a giant tower at speeds of up to 60 miles per hour, it’s an exhilarating experience. At night you’ll see the incredible lighting system featuring more than 240,000 LED lights with creative lighting programs.
Pose for the paparazzi
Icon Park isn’t just home home to the Orlando Stayflyer and The Wheel. It’s also where you’ll find other fun-packed attractions like Madame Tussauds. Here you can meet A-listers like Selena Gomez, Anne Hathaway and Ryan Gosling. Although it’s just the wax model versions, you can still pose on the red carpet and have your photo taken with them. An ideal place for a night out with the family, Madame Tussauds is open until 10pm.
Icon Park is also home to the Sealife Aquarium, Arcade City, the Pearl Express Train, the Skeletons Museum and the 7D Dark Ride Adventure; all open until late at night.
Get tickets to a home game
In downtown Orlando, the Amway Center is the home base for the NBA’s Orlando Magic and ECHL’s Orlando Solar Bears. You can take the whole family to see a game; and for Orlando Magic home games, children under 36″ tall don’t need a ticket. The center is also a major concert venue and hosts shows by big-name artists like Ariana Grande, Jennifer Lopez and Shawn Mendes.
Explore a wacky museum
Open until midnight, Ripley’s Orlando is a fun place to visit at night. Expect to see hundreds of kitsch oddities on display including shrunken heads, bizarre wax figures, rare animal skeletons, candy art and weird historical artefacts. You’ll be taking your family on a weird and wacky journey, made all the better by going at night.
Go alligator spotting at night
Ideal for thrill-seekers of all ages, a nighttime airboat ride will take you across the swamps of the city where you’ll get up-close views of crocodiles and other local wildlife. Boggy Creek Airboat Adventures runs amazing night tours that are suitable for children and adults alike. You’ll ride into the night on a 17-seater airboat led by an expert guide. You’re guaranteed to come face-to-face with a whole host of nocturnal animals including the huge American Alligator.
Have a racing competition
Come rain or shine, the fun is always guaranteed at the I-Drive Nascar indoor go karting track. The longest and fastest indoor track in the city, it’s open until 11pm on weekdays and until midnight on weekends. Each race is 8 minutes long on the quarter mile track complete with 8 turns, 3 hairpins, a chicane and The Senna S bend. There’s also a 4-lane bowling alley, a full-service restaurant and an arcade with more than 60 games.
Dine in a medieval setting
Dine on delicious food and witness amazing feats at the one-of-a-kind Medieval Times dinner show. Set within a medieval-style castle, the 3-hour show will make you feel as if you’ve gone back in time to 11th-century Spain. The evening starts with a live jousting tournament and classic sword fight during which families can cheer for their favourite knight in shining armour. Afterwards, the castle’s serfs and wenches serve a delicious 4-course banquet.
Fly high over the city
Take an amazing look at Orlando’s awe-inspiring landscape from the best seat in the house – a helicopter! Orlando Heli-Tours offers a raft of unique air tours that will see you soaring over theme parks, celebrity homes, lakes, swamps and woodlands. For nighttime flights, check out the Epcot Fireworks Tour. Not only do you fly over Epcot’s amazing fireworks, you also fly over Disney’s hollywood Studios, Downtown Disney, Seaworld and Universal.

Some of the best nightlife in Orlando can be found around the buzzing area of Church Street in downtown Orlando. Places like Chillers, Cahoots and Latitudes all offer music, food, craft beers and happy hour specials. At Latitudes you can sip drinks out on the 3rd-floor rooftop terrace overlooking historic Church Street.
Ride a pedal-powered pub
Enjoy plenty of adults-only fun when you pedal around on a Limo Cycle for a night of drinks and laughs. The pedal-powered pub has enough space for up to 15 riders and takes you on a 2-hour tour with stops at a few pubs along the way. It’s a fun way to spend an evenings with friends or to celebrate a special occasion.

The Courtesy Bar in downtown Orlando offers a cocktail-making class every 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month. Taste your way around
While most Orlando food tours are family friendly, the vast majority of tour-goers are adults who want to taste their way around the city. The Winter Park Walking Food Tour lets you sip and sample some of the area’s best dishes as you stroll around the scenic streets of Winter Park. It takes place during the day, but if you book a private tour for a big group you can opt for an evening slot.
Take a brewery tour
There are dozens of micro and craft breweries in Orlando where you can quench your thirst and get the inside scoop on how to make beer. One of the best known is downtown’s Orlando Brewing which offers free tours from Monday through Saturday. You can also take guided tours of several breweries from the comfort of an air-conditioned bus with Hop On Brew Tours. During each guided tour you’ll visit 3-5 breweries depending on the tour you choose. Most tours include beer tasting, snacks and entertainment
Get down at a block party
Nightlife in Orlando doesn’t get much better than the late-night block parties at Wall Street Plaza. Every Friday and Saturday night the plaza is closed off to traffic and opened up to revelers who are invited party until the early hours. There’s an outdoor DJ and numerous bars offering cheap drinks specials.
Laugh along at a comedy night
For some enjoyable evening entertainment head to the Sak Comedy Lab in downtown Orlando. The 250-seat theater is one of the most popular comedy venues in the city and hosts nightly improvised comedy shows that are open to everyone. For those who want to learn the art of stand-up comedy, the venue also runs a range of classes for both beginners and experienced comedians. Whether you’re there to watch a show or join a class, plenty of laughs are guaranteed.
Drink champagne on a private flight
Take flight on The Wheel at Icon Park in a private capsule, complete with champagne and wonderful views over Central Florida. Try timing your flight with the sunset or the theme park fireworks. The wheel lights up with thousands of colored lights at night – you can even request to become a ‘lighting partner’ and select your own colors to mark a special occasion. Champagne flights are available until 10pm on weekdays and midnight at weekends.
Sail in a swan-shaped boat
Sailing around Lake Eola in a swan-shaped paddle boat is a fun experience that everyone should try. For a romantic twist, you can rent a boat at night and get beautiful views of the nightly light show at the lake’s majestic water fountain. You can rent boats from the dock at the north end of Lake Eola. You don’t need a reservation, just turn up during operating hours and you can rent one with cash or card.

You don’t need to wait for a special occasion to enjoy a date night in ultimate style. Whether you want to learn some new skills or just spend an enjoyable evening together, a couple’s cooking class is a great way to do it. Every Friday night is date night at Farris & Foster’s Chocolate Factory where you’ll learn to craft a pound of confections to take home, with the added bonus of being to bring along a bottle of wine.
Orlando is home to thousands of restaurants so you’re bound to find the perfect setting for romance. There’s everything from burgers and pizzas to steaks, seafood, Mexican, Italian and much more. The Ravenous Pig doesn’t sound too romantic but it has a cozy vibe and serves inventive American fare and handcrafted cocktails. Another great place for a romantic meal is Eddie V’s where you can dine on tasty seafood then sit at the intimate V Lounge bar and listen to live jazz music.
Mingle at an arty party
Enjoy a date night that will enrich your cultural side at Orlando’s only art party. The Orlando Museum of Art holds this fun artsy event from 6pm on the first Thursday of every month. Guests can access the museum’s featured exhibition, as well as listen to music and mingle with an eclectic mix of people. There’s a bar serving beers, wine and soft drinks, plus there are plenty of places to eat nearby.
Catch a live performance
If you like live theater you’ll want to book a date at the Dr Phillips Center for the Performing Arts where you can catch Broadway shows, plays, ballets and music events. Upcoming shows include Les Miserables, Aladdin, Miss Saigon and My Fair Lady, to name just a few.
Watch a movie outdoors
Take the whole family along to watch free films on a huge outdoor screen at Popcorn Flicks in the Park. The event is typically held on the second Thursday of each month at Central Park in Winter Park’s downtown district. Bring a chair, grab some snacks and spend the night watching a movie under the stars. Movies are every night beginning at dusk – arrive early to get the best spot!
Enjoy nightly entertainment
Also free of charge to get in is Universal’s Citywalk entertainment complex. A mix of shopping, restaurants and entertainment attractions, this is a great place to take the kids for an evening out. The venue has free self-parking after 6pm and is located adjacent to Universal Studios.
Have a night out amongst nature
If you’re not planning on renting a boat, you can still enjoy an evening at Lake Eola Park without spending a cent. There’s a walkway around the lake for scenic strolls. The park also has a large kids’ playground which is free to use. The onsite Walt Disney Amphitheater hosts many free community events and performances. Don’t forget the nightly light shows around the fountain; they run nightly at around 8pm and 9.30 pm.
Hang out at Disney Springs
Head for an evening out at Disney Springs for plenty of cheap and free family fun. This bustling waterside promenade is packed with family friendly shops, restaurants and fun entertainment including live music and specialty acts. Little ones will love the Marketplace Carousel and amphicar boat rides. And for date nights you can book a champagne cruise afloat a 4-foot Italian water taxi.
Disney Springs is free to get in and it’s open to everyone including those who don’t have Disney tickets.
Hit the beach
It might not sound like the best place to go at night, but the beaches near Orlando offer plenty of entertainment after dark. Popular options for families are Cocoa Beach and Daytona Beach – both are just a one hour drive from Orlando and both have lots of fun attractions and family friendly cafes and restaurants.
Go on a walking tour
Wander around downtown Orlando (especially near Lake Eola Park) and you’re bound to notice the bevy of huge art installations placed around the city. These are part of a community project that was designed to enhance the image of the downtown area. The iconic pieces include a huge bird-inspired installation along Robinson Street that lights up at night with LED lights. The best way to appreciate the 8-piece collection is on a free self-guided walking tour. You can do it day or night, with kids or just adults.
Party at a free festival
The sprawling Lakeridge Winery in Clermont offers an long itinerary of free festivals and events. They tend to take place during the day, but some of them roll into early evening. There’s a monthly grape stomping event complete with live music, competitions, a kids bounce house and yes, plenty of grape stomping. Another great event is the BBQ and Blues Festival which features BBQ chefs from around the world battling it out for the top spot as the Lakeridge Rib Champion.
The winery also offers complimentary tours and wine tasting 7 days a week.
