Where to go on holiday in March

Dallas, Texas

Holidays to Texas in March

March can be a tricky month in which to plan a break. Finding the best weather conditions in what is in many places the shoulder season can test even the most seasoned traveller. So if you’re wondering ‘where can I go on holiday in March?’ try looking in unexpected places. Somewhere like Texas, for example. Now, Texas is not somewhere which comes to mind for many people when they’re planning a trip, but that might be about to change, as more and more people discover the wonders of this awesome destination.

In March, Texas is home to some incredible events. For a true taste of southern America, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo can’t be beaten. For music and film fans, the South by Southwest Festival needs no introduction. Perhaps more surprisingly, Texans go all-in for the celebration of St Patrick’s Day. These are just a few of the events taking place in March. It’s not all about the parties, either. Texas is a fantastic place to visit for nature lovers, with the Spring Migration bringing 1000s of feathered visitors to the state. Eagle-eyed visitors can spot species including falcons, hawks, herons and eagles.

March breaks in Arizona

Texas isn’t the only state boasting a packed calendar in March. Arizona is also a hive of activity this month. Phoenix is the place to be for celebrations such as Agave on the Rocks and the Italian Festival. March is also a fantastic time to enjoy carpets of wildflowers, which add a painterly splash of color to the arid landscape. Sports fans will enjoy the Spring training season when the biggest and brightest baseball teams come out to play.

We have some incredible villa holidays in Scottsdale, which is ideally located for enjoying the events and activities in Phoenix.

Glorious Grenada in March

Ease yourself into British springtime with a sun-seeking holiday in Grenada. Also known as ‘The Spice Island’, this is a fantastic destination for those who want a holiday that is equal parts laid-back luxury and adrenaline-pumping adventures. We would be remiss to not point out that Grenada has some of the most glorious beaches in the region, including the famous Grand Anse Beach. Beach holidays don’t get much better than this! If you like your Caribbean holidays a bit more high octane, then Grenada is ideal for you. Water sports are plentiful or head to the island’s interior for a bit of trekking to fantastic waterfalls and spice plantations.

Where to go on holiday in April

A beach in Marbella, Spain

Marvelous Marbella breaks in April

With 320 days of sun a year, Marbella is the perfect place to escape to the sun. This beautiful Costa del Sol resort is a fantastic base for exploring a popular and authentic region of Spain. Flights to Marbella from the UK take just 2 hours 50 minutes, so it is a great short-haul destination for a Spring holiday. Easy day trips from the city include Grenada, Malaga, and Gibraltar, while the adventurous can even head across the Strait to Morocco. There’s plenty to explore in the city too; beautiful Marbella Old Town offers authentic Spanish restaurants and bars, and the glamorous Puerto Banus harbour is the place to see and be seen. Marbella is also a great place to enjoy sports and activities. Golf, hiking the Camino del Rey, and dolphin watching are all popular activities during the day.

Marbella nightlife is legendary. Beach clubs and bars are gearing up for the summer season in April. You won’t have the endless parties that the city is famous for at this point in the year (come back in the summer if that’s your thing), but there’s still plenty of opportunities to dance until the sun comes up. The nightlife is the primary reason why Marbella is one of the best places for a girls’ holiday in Europe, as well as being a hotspot for Stag and Hen parties.

There are plenty of fun activities for Marbella family holidays. You may not automatically think of the city as a place for breaks with the kids, but there’s so much to do for all ages. Various theme parks and water parks in the region make for fun-filled days out, while an authentic taste of Spain can be found in the many tapas bars in the Old Town.

Easter (or Santa Semana) is a fantastic time to be in Spain. During the week leading up to Easter (April 10th – April 17th, 2022), Marbella celebrates this important religious event with parades and marches, the mood in turns celebratory and somber.

Spain holidays are best enjoyed from the comfort of your own luxury Marbella villa. We have villas to rent in Marbella for families, and large groups, all within easy reach of this beautiful city.

April in Palm Springs

April in Palm Springs means one thing; Coachella. This world-famous music festival takes over the resort for 2 weekends in 2022; 15th-17th and 22nd-24th April. Coachella Festival needs no introduction for music lovers, and it brings fans from around the globe to Palm Springs to enjoy big hits under the desert sun. The festivities don’t end when Coachella wraps up though, on the following weekend, the stage is set for the Stagecoach Country Music Festival. For music fans, Palm Springs is the only place to be in April.

If music festivals aren’t your scene, don’t despair. There’s plenty of other reasons to visit Palm Springs in April. It’s the last of the cooler months before the desert heat takes hold. Milder temperatures are perfect for exploring the unique and varied landscapes of the region or practicing your swing at one of the famous Palm Springs golf clubs.

Palm Springs also makes a great stop on a road trip around California. You can drive from Los Angeles to Palm Springs in just 1 hour 40 minutes. The magnificent Joshua Tree National Park is just over an hour away by road. For more ideas on filling your holiday in Palm Springs, take a look at our 25 Things to do in Palm Springs blog.

Beautiful Bali in Spring

Bali holidays are an attractive option at any time of year, but April might well be the best time of all to pay a visit. Drier than March, but just before the hot season gets into full swing, April is best described as Bali’s shoulder season. This popular destination is busy year-round, but April is a good time for exploring before the heaviest crowds descend for the summer. And what a lot of exploring there is to do! Uluwatu Temple, Pura Ulun Danu Bratan, Ubud, Mount Batur, and White Crater Lake are just some of the highlights waiting for you.

Although there will likely be rainy days in April, there’s still plenty of sun in the forecast to make the most of Bali beach holidays. It’s a great time for seeing wild dolphins frolicking in the ocean, particularly in Lovina. The interior forests will be lush and green following the rainy season. With flowers in bloom across the island, Bali is at its most beautiful at this time of year.

We do a good line in villas for luxury Bali holidays. Our beautiful homes are the pinnacle of stylish design, with special touches such as panoramic windows and infinity pools. They are fantastic for couples, groups, and Bali family holidays.

One of the biggest draws of the park is the Yellowstone National Park volcano. Or, the Yellowstone Supervolcano, to give it its proper title. The park sits on an area of seismic activity, and the resulting landscape is phenomenal. The Caldera is the magnificent centerpiece of this geological wonderland. It was formed by an immense eruption around 640000 years ago, and the resulting crater is one of the most spectacular sights in North America.

If that isn’t enough geothermal action, you can pay a visit to Old Faithful. The famous Yellowstone geyser is named because it is one of the most reliable attractions in the park. It erupts every two hours, shooting jets of water from beneath the Earth up to 184 feet into the sky. Watching Old Faithful erupt is exhilarating, and a unique example of the Earth in action.

The park is so large, it lies across three states. The majority is in Wyoming, with Idaho and Montana also laying claim to a piece of the geothermal wonderland. We have a great choice of villas in Big Sky, Montana. At just under an hours’ drive from the park, Big Sky is the perfect base for your Yellowstone National Park holiday.

Explore Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast

The russet roofs of Dalmatia were almost made for golden Autumn light. October is a great time to visit the southern part of Croatia, especially Dubrovnik. Crowds of visitors and day-trippers crowd the city during the summer, but in October, you’ll have the atmospheric city streets almost to yourself. It’s also the last month of the season for sailing around Croatia’s jaw-dropping coast. Local produce is at its best during the Autumn as well, so you’ll have a great excuse to indulge in some fantastic food and drink.

October in Amalfi Coast

Glamorous, sophisticated, and achingly beautiful, Italy’s Amalfi Coast is a holiday hotspot popular with British travellers all year round. October is right at the end of the summer season, but before the weather turns for the winter, you can still enjoy shorts-and-t-shirts temperatures and pleasant beach days. Conditions are cool enough to really make the most of the chance to explore this wonderful region. If you’ve got a special occasion planned, such as an Amalfi Coast wedding, October is a wonderful time to consider setting that date. You’ll have far more choice and availability than during the peak season.

Home to picture-perfect towns such as Positano and Sorrento, the Amalfi Coast has some of the most popular destinations in Italy. They are gorgeous at any time of year, but during October, once the summer crowds have dissipated, you can take your time to admire their beauty. Day trips to Herculaneum and Pompeii will be quieter and more poignant without the crowds, and hiking in the Lattari Mountains, which feels impossible in the heavy heat of summer, is perfectly possible in October. The nearest airport to the Amalfi Coast is Naples. There are plenty of ways to get from the city to your accommodation (including our rather fabulous airport transfers, which can be booked through our Guest Experience team.)

If you’re wondering where to stay in the Amalfi Coast, we have beautiful homes available across the region, including in Positano and Amalfi town. Our Amalfi Coast villa rentals are luxurious and spacious, with many boasting traditional Italian features and stunning views of the Tyrrhenian Sea.

Beautiful Biarritz in November

Biarritz holidays at any time of year always start at the beach. This charming resort on the southwest Atlantic coast of France is a wonderful destination at any time of year but attracts big crowds in the summer season. November is a great time to visit to get a really authentic feel for the city. It’s easy to get there from the UK. London to Biarritz by air takes under 2 hours, and you can also get the train, ferry, or drive to the resort.

The weather is starting to turn cooler and sometimes wetter in November, so a good jacket will stand you in good stead for a days’ exploring, but you’ll be rewarded with having Biarritz’s most popular attractions almost to yourself. The coastal walks, beaches, and restaurants are much, much quieter at this time of year, and there’s no better way to keep out the cold on chillier days than indulging in some traditional French food and wine in a local bistro.

Biarritz is a hotspot for surf enthusiasts, and those legendary Atlantic swells kick up a gear in November. The resort caters well for surfers, with board hire and surf schools in place on many beaches. If you’re going to experience a bit of Biarritz surf, November is a great time to experience fantastic waves without the crowds.
