The allure of Petit Cul de Sac 12 is precisely what the name suggests: capacious, unencumbered living areas, plenty of room to move freely, and a sense of being at one with the vastness of the sea and sky. While plenty of St. Barth’s luxury rental properties have design-forward styles and star-architect credentials, this intimate vacation home is distinguished by what it does not have: formality, distractions or even unneeded walls. Life flows freely between living, cooking and sleeping areas; between indoors and out; and between the views in the foreground and the azure vistas of Petit Cul de Sac and the green slopes of the surrounding hillsides.

Petit Cul de Sac 12 also benefits from its quiet, out-of-the-way location, on the other side of the island from Gustavia, the better to focus on being at one with slower island rhythms and the calm that comes from being in nature. Its human-size scale makes it well suited to couples on honeymoons or other romantic getaways, or to small families looking for quality time together. Top Villas concierge can customize the experience for either style of guest, whether that means organizing a romantic dinner a deux or setting up a cotton candy machine.

The focal point is the outdoors, especially the expansive terrace with its shimmering infinity pool overlooking the bay. Next to the pool are sunbeds on a grass lawn, and under the roof of the house is a shaded outdoor dining area that comfortably seats four. The rooms inside the house have wall-doors that can be opened wide to blend this terrace with the indoor areas, which include a second dining area for six, a living room and a galley kitchen that opens onto the living room, and ultimately onto the terrace.

The two similarly sized bedrooms, on opposite sides of the living room, also have wide window-doors that open onto the terrace, as well as windows on other walls to allow in more light. Each is air-conditioned and can be made fully private, and has a queen bed and ensuite bathroom with double sinks and a large shower with pretty mosaic tiles. But odds are you won’t be looking at the fixtures: There’s too much beautiful scenery outside.
