Languedoc family villa with pool near coast - this comfortable South of France holiday villa enjoys a village location so you can easily walk to the boulangerie and local shops. The villa is only a short drive from the lively little town of Pezenas and about 20 miles from the Languedocs sandy beaches.

The village of Alignan-du-Vent is surrounded by vineyards; it offers all the everyday shops: bakers, butcher, grocers, chemist, a little supermarket and also a bar- so when you want to simply unwind by the pool you know you can pick up the essentials locally. Just down the road is Pezenas, with its excellent Saturday market, its well-preserved, protected old town, a wider range of shops and numerous restaurants tucked away in little courtyards and narrow lanes. There is almost always a festival or fair of some description happening in the summer, the best-known of which are the frequent 'brasucades', evening fetes with music and dancing, and grilled mussels and other foods cooked outdoors. Great fun and popular with locals and holidaymakers alike.
The Languedoc-Roussillon region has something for everyone. There are miles of clean sandy beaches all along the coast, many of which hold the European Blue Flag symbol of quality. Scuba diving is popular as the sea is so clear and there are also some good windsurfing beaches. Only 20 minutes away are the oyster and mussel beds of the Etang de Thau, which is also known for its pink flamingos. The large waterpark at Cap dAgde is a favourite with children and adults alike. You can hire bikes and cycle along the Canal du Midi, a UNESCO world heritage site, or take a more leisurely lunch, dinner or day cruise. Other places to visit in the area include cosmopolitan Montpellier; the fishing port of Sete with its distinctive canals and excellent seafood; Aigues Mortes, an enchanting medieval fortified city, and Beziers, another attractive town which holds the famous Feria in August, when there is entertainment for all ages ranging from flamenco dancing, horse shows, bull-fighting, processions, music and more.
Local delicacies include the 'petits pates de Pezenas' (little mincemeat pies) which are on sale in all the local bakeries, and the famous 'Berlingots de Pezenas' sweets: there are also plenty of vineyards where you can try some of the local wines. In short, if you want to see some wonderful sights, enjoy the sunshine and soak up the authentic local atmosphere, Le Poulain would make an excellent base.
