Description

A bohemian-modern retreat steps from downtown Palm Springs, this villa is the former winter escape of JCW and Wilberta Hinshaw, developers of the historic La Plaza shopping center. Built in 1934, the sprawling 3-bedroom, 3.5-bath ranch sits on landscaped grounds in the Movie Colony district, a 10-minute stroll from restaurants, galleries, and shopping.

Styled in a mix of mid-century modern and Renaissance-era decor with modern technology throughout, including Sonos surround-sound inside the home, it's is an eclectic escape that invites relaxation.

The home opens onto a cozy sitting area with a velvet ottoman facing a decorative fireplace, a unique church pew bench, and a vintage church stained-glass window. A colorful stained-glass chandelier hangs above a 6-seat dining table. Just off this room is a fully-equipped kitchen designed for entertaining, featuring stainless steel appliances, marble countertops and a wine fridge.

Beyond the living area is a light-filled living room, which opens onto the expansive outdoor patio through sliding doors. On one end, a full-length leather sofa and two stylish hanging chairs frame a 65-inch Smart TV. On the other, two chairs, accented by fur, face a chic, glass-topped wet bar crafted with a natural finish and a live edge. A turntable, linked to Sonos, sets the scene for entertaining.

For the real entertainment, just step outside. A resort-style, heated swimming pool lies at the center of an impressive, South-facing backyard lined with palm trees and surrounded by a lush, 10-foot privacy wall. Soak in the sun in one of the cozy loungers along one end of the pool, or catch up with friends around on cushioned sitting area around a stone fireplace along the other. In a separate corner, a spacious hot tub with built-in cushions and 18 jets faces a second stone outdoor fireplace and outdoor bar area.

Three more sitting areas surround the pool to provide ample room for entertaining, including a 6-seat dining table. With a BBQ grill and 6-seat outdoor dining table, you can enjoy dinner alfresco.

Between three spacious bedrooms, the home comfortably sleeps up to 6 guests. Each bedroom, located in a separate corner of the home for privacy, features a Casper mattress and pillows and Lux Linen sheets and duvets. The master suite, located off the East end of the living area was designed with a loft feel and is styled in rustic, mid-century decor with wood-paneled walls, a king-sized bed and a 50th anniversary Herman Miller Eames rosewood and leather lounge chair and ottoman. This room also has a 55-inch flat-screen TV and a luxurious bathroom with marble walls and a soaker tub. The suite opens onto the backyard through floor to ceiling pocket doors, steps from a cushioned sitting area shaded by umbrellas.

The second master bedroom located on the Northwest corner, is whimsically styled with a four-post, king-sized bed, an early California Monterey sofa and a decorative vintage TV. This room also has an en-suite bath and walk-in shower. A private door leads to the backyard.

The third bedroom, located in the Southwest corner, is styled in eclectic decor with a stained glass door, a Herman Miller Eames rocking chair and unique built-in desk. This bedroom has a queen-sized bed and en-suite bath with a walk-in shower.

For added convenience, this home features a private washer and dryer, additional half-bath, and Aesop products. A spacious driveway with charging station provides room for up to 3 cars, giving you the freedom to explore the surrounding desert.

We’ve stayed at a lot of homes and I was hesitant about not letting ourselves in. It worked out great and the personal touch was actually kind of nice. If my home were used by others, I’d want this type of service.
