An hour or so's drive will bring you to superb chateaux such as Chambord and Chenonceau, with Amboise about an hour and a half away. And don't miss a visit to Bourges during your stay here. Although slightly off the beaten track for foreign visitors, it was once the capital of France, and its cathedral is second only to that of Notre Dame in Paris in terms of size.
