If you’re trying to plan a Disney vacation for the first time, you may be wondering where to start. With so much to think about, organizing any big family trip is tricky at the best of times. Planning for Disney World is even more so! With tickets, transport and accommodation to consider, the booking process can easily become overwhelming.
As there is so much to consider when arranging a Disney trip, planning in advance is essential. Before you even start to think about your vacation, it is important to spend some time doing some research. To make sure your Disney World experience is as stress-free as possible, we’ve pulled together some quick and handy tips to get you started!
Things to consider when planning a Disney vacation
1. When to visit
If you’re ready to plan a Disney vacation, the first thing you need to decide is your travel dates. When you’ve figured out which dates work for you personally, you will also need to consider weather, special events, and potential crowds. If you’re worried about long wait times, check a crowd calendar before you book. The summer months tend to be the busiest, especially during school holidays.
When you start planning a Disney vacation, costs can soon mount up. Before you book anything, it’s a good idea to give yourself a budget to work with. This can include everything from transport costs to a daily dining allowance. Luckily, most things you need can be booked in advance, so you can easily spread the cost over a number of months, or even years.
3. Where to stay
One of the biggest decisions you need to make is where you’re going to stay! Disney has more than 25 resort hotels, which you can book up to 500 days in advance. Although it is super convenient, staying onsite can be really expensive. If you’re working with a budget, hiring a private vacation home is a much more cost-effective option.
When you book with Top Villas, you can secure a vacation home up to three years before you plan to travel. We have introduced a new cancellation policy on many of our homes, designed to give you more confidence when booking ahead. Choose one of our selected Flex properties and you can reschedule or cancel your stay, even if you’re due to check in soon.
4. Park tickets
Before you book, you need to decide what kind of park ticket you want. Single-day passes are available, but if you’re planning to visit the park more than once, multi-day tickets are better value. It is worth spending quite a lot of time researching your options, to make sure you get the right fit. Tickets are non-refundable, but you can always amend your dates if your travel plans change (terms and conditions apply).
If you book your accommodation through Top Villas, our Guest Experience team can arrange Disney tickets for you. Just let us know your requirements, and we will be able to find you the best option – at the best price!
5. Dining reservations
We know this may sound strange, but trust us! You can make Disney World dining reservations for your trip up to 60 days in advance. (Pre COVID-19, this window was 180 days). As Disney’s most popular restaurants fill up months in advance, you should book as soon as possible. Once you’ve arrived, you can always cancel any reservations you’re not planning to use.
If you need to hire a car for your trip, we suggest arranging it a couple of months before you arrive. Most of the Disney hotels offer a free shuttle service that will take you straight to the theme parks. If you’re staying in a private vacation home, hiring a car is one of the most convenient ways to get around. If you book with Top Villas, we can take care of all your transportation needs, including airport transfers and car rentals. If you don’t want to drive, we can even arrange a private chauffeur!
