Where can I eat gluten-free in Barbados?

There are many places in Barbados that cater for gluten-free diets.

Finding gluten-free foods in Barbados is much easier than you may think. Most of the island’s grocery stores and supermarkets sell gluten-free products like rice cakes and gluten-free bread and biscuits, and all of the markets sell gluten-free foods like rice, potatoes, fruit, veg, seafood, meat, dairy, beans and nuts.

The restaurants and cafes in Barbados have English-speaking staff so it’s easy to let them know about any special dietary requirements you have. There are plenty of eateries that cater for gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan diets, and many of them are happy to prepare any dishes on the menu without gluten-containing ingredients wherever possible.

If you’re drinking in cafes or bars there are many juices, sodas, wines and spirits that are naturally gluten-free, however beers, ales and malt beverages are not.

Wherever you are on the island we recommend that you check the labels or ask staff whether the items are gluten-free.
