Taking the whole family skiing survival guide

Are you planning a winter break in Colorado or further afield in Europe? The best snow coverage for skiing in Aspen and Snowmass is from December through till March and it’s similar for our two favourite French resorts, Chamonix and Courchevel. So you still have time to book a Christmas or later holiday break.

Villas in SnowmassWe have some truely luxury chalets in Snowmass including a range of new additions to our portfolio where your party can relax and enjoy themselves. Skiing holidays are great for the whole family as there are many activities you can enjoy together including time chilling out at your villa watching movies or playing games. If you’re taking the kids for the first time here are a few things to consider.

Location
A family friendly resort is a must and Snowmass certainly caters for the whole family. Make sure you’re close to the slopes. This makes it less of a chore to those new to the sport and especially if they are young. You don’t want to exhaust them before they get to the slopes. If you’re close by they will manage to carry their skis and you won’t be lumbered with theirs as well as your own.

Chill-time
If your children haven’t been skiing before, they will probably find it more tiring than any of you expect – what’s happened to their usual boundless energy? Just build in plenty of breaks and alternative activities in the afternoons at least for the first few days.

Tuition
Villas in SnowmassIf your youngsters are beginners then it is best to enrol them with other beginners in some classes. This way you’ll know they’re in safe hands and you also get a chance to hit the slopes.

Bathroom breaks
Remember to make sure kids use the bathroom before they leave the villa, at the top of the lift run and at lunch time. Bathroom breaks in the middle of the slopes aren’t always possible.

Meeting points
Although they should be safely in the hands of the ski instructor or with you, it’s worth giving your youngsters the name or number of your villa and your phone number just in case. Why not arrange a meeting place by a landmark that they can recognise in resort so that in the case of any mishaps you can meet up there? Better to be safe rather than sorry.

Something to look forward to
You might be planning this as a Christmas treat or a holiday break in the New Year. Can’t say we blame you as it’s always good to have something to look forward to after the festivities.

Our luxury holiday rentals in Aspen and luxury ski chalets Snowmass won’t disappoint. Most are just a few steps from the slopes and have private outdoor hot tubs to relax in under a fresh, starlit sky.
