Disney World has once again mastered the art of surprise with this drop-tower thrill ride at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, just minutes from your Orlando villa doorstep.
The Story
Board the ‘fright elevator’ and join the lost souls of Hollywood’s Golden Age as you plunge into pitch black and cross into The Twilight Zone at the once glamorous Hollywood Tower Hotel.
Based on the popular television show and opened in 1994, the terrifying Tower has been Orlando’s ‘fast’ favourite for over fifteen years.
Set in the heart of the fictional Hollywood Tower Hotel, legend has it that a bolt of lightning struck the 13th floor of this once glamorous gathering place while five unfortunate souls were riding down the hotel’s maintenance elevator.
They disappeared without a trace…..
The Tower Hotel
Enter the old hotel on that gloomy Halloween night back in 1939 and notice the scorch marks still seared across the rides façade.
You will wander through the overgrown gardens and spot sinister statues as you wait in the cue to the tune of Art Deco music echoing eerily along the pathway.
Once inside the hotel lobby expect to notice a curious array of abandoned objects, rotting flowers and unfinished food littered around the foyer and coated in decades’ worth of dust.
You can’t help but wonder “Where did everybody go?”
A storm rages outside as ‘guests’ are informed their rooms are not quite ready for their arrival.
Then a sudden bolt of lightning kills the power!
Tension is rising as you are plunged into darkness and you jolt in surprise as an old television crackles into life to narrate the terrible truth of ‘that’ fateful night back in 1939….
Discover the secret for yourself and board the service elevator if you dare!
The Service Elevator
Expect fiery furnaces and howling engines as you pass through the decrepit boiler room and stand in anticipation as the elevator arrives.
And as the doors close tight you ascend into terror. Your very own episode of The Twilight Zone has begun!
As the lift makes its way up to the 13th floor you glimpse the hotel’s eerie apparitions and wander about the fate that awaits you.
Then the lift drops and you plunge into darkness!
The ride thrashes up, down and side to side in a haphazard series of drops and lifts randomly selected by the Tower itself so you never know which way you are going.
“Never the Same Fear Twice!”
After more than two minutes of terror the elevator finally returns to the basement where guests can find their ride photo at the hotel’s authentic ‘Lost & Found’ desk.
Step aboard if you dare and be sure took book your nearby Disney villa!
