Visiting the DisneyWorld theme parks is always punctuated with food and drink stops.  With impatient youngsters who want to carry on with the main attractions, Disney offer a lot of themed eating places to keep them interested.

Of course when you’re staying at a villa near Disney you might want to take your own lunches, but maybe on some occasions it’s also good to indulge.

Pizzafari at Animal Kingdom is worth a look and won’t break the bank hopefully.  It’s a quick service restaurant as it ‘says on the tin’, not a fine dining venue.  The menu is limited to pizza, Caesar salad and Italian sandwiches with a couple of simple desserts to satisfy those with a sweet tooth.

So as well as pizzas for the family to share, each room in this restaurant is themed with wall art or murals.  It’s the themed rooms that take you on an artistic safari depending on which room you’re in.  The murals don’t necessarily group together the animals you expect, so you’ll need to study them to guess the theme.  Here’s a clue or two:

• Ornamental are those showy creatures like the peacock, the butterfly and the clownfish
• Hanging Around features animals that like to hang upside down like monkeys, opossums, bats and snakes
• It’s all about turtles, snails, & kangaroos in the Take Your Home with You room
• Nocturnal features animals that come out at night like tigers, owls, wolves, and raccoons
• Camouflage animals: this group of animals try their best to blend into the background.  Good examples are leopards, tigers, deer, lions, fox, and polar bears

The artist responsible for the Camouflage room is none other than Frank Armitage who worked on the animation backgrounds for some of Disney’s early features like Sleeping Beauty, Mary Poppins, The Jungle Book and Man-in-Space.  Frank came out of retirement to create these amazing additions to the Pizzafari walls.

There are carved wooden critters all over the walls and in the rafters so don’t forget to look up once in a while.  Oh and mind what you’re stepping on – that’s a huge snake!
