Do you like to get out and about when you’re on vacation? If so Florida has the perfect climate for outdoor trips whether you prefer water based opportunities or wildlife. The climate is even perfect for the magnetic pull of the theme parks in Orlando in particular.
Another good thing about Florida besides its climate is the number of luxury villas there are to rent as your holiday home. From north to south there will a location perfect for you with luxurious villas on offer.
If like many you decide to make Orlando your base, there are literally hundreds to choose from mainly in beautiful, secure and gated resorts. Here you can stay within in minuites of the biggest theme park, DisneyWorld but still enjoy some peace and quiet.
One out and about experience can be found at Giraffe Ranch. Head south along Highway 57 for about 45 minutes and you’ll find Giraffe Ranch close to Dade City. As you might have guessed Giraffe Ranch is home to … well giraffes which you’ll get to feed. You’ll also see camels and get to pet them if you’re lucky, as well as rhinos and pygmy hippos.
You’ll take your safari in a 4-WD Safari Tour vehicle complete with canopy to shield you from the sun and capable of covering the less than straight forward terrain. You’ll be safe and comfortable with great views of the preserve. You’ll probably see some Irish Dexter cattle and some Austrian Haflinger horses too.
While you’re on safari you can also expect to catch site of ostrich, bongo and blackbuck antelope, zebras, axis deer, warthogs … the list goes on. Several of the animals like the giraffes will feed from the vehicle. You really will be up close and personal with one of these creatures.
Giraffe Ranch is a working game reserve where the animals roam free.
What else is there?
Well there is all sorts of native wildlife in this 47 acre preserve. You’ll see huge Oak trees and wild orchids and wetlands. You might catch a glimpse of one or two of the 200 Sandhill Cranes that come to roost every night.
There are just two safaris every day at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. but you could also go on a camel expedition, a behind the scenes tour or feed the lemurs. No chance of getting bored.
